Man Charged with Felony DUI after Accident Killed a Child Another Richland County traffic accident turned fatal on the evening of Tuesday, June 18th. This brings the total deaths in traffic accidents up to 30 for the year. Unfortunately, this death was due to felony DUI. Driver Arrested Felony DUI Charges After Colliding with Motorcyclist On Saturday night, a driver collided with a northbound motorcyclist on Hazelwood Road. He now faces a host of charges, including felony DUI involving death. Troy Lebrente Wilson, 26, was reportedly heading south on Hazelwood Road when he attempted to turn left, putting his car in the path of an oncoming motorcyclist. After the crash, Wilson drove away. SC Police Are Not Required to Take Video of DUI Suspects, Says SC Supreme Court On May 29th, the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that police are not required to film DUI suspects after they refuse to take a breathalyzer test. The decision came after much controversy around a law put on the books in 2006, that required police officers to videotape DUI suspects for about 20 minutes while they administered the breathalyzer test. Memorial Day Weekend Sees Drunk Driver Flee DUI Checkpoint According to authorities, a drunk driver struck a highway patrolman after fleeing a Memorial Day DUI checkpoint. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office reports that 26-year-old Elizah Robertson of Goose Creek, SC, tried to flee a traffic checkpoint that had been set up to near Myers Road. Federal Agency Recommends Lowering Drunk Driving Blood Alcohol Content

NTSB Suggests Lowering Blood Alcohol Content Limits to Prevent Drunk Driving Deaths The National Transportation Safety Board recommended on Tuesday, May 14th, that states across the US lower their legal blood alcohol limit from 0.08 to 0.05, to help prevent drunk driving accidents. Currently, all 50 states have the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit at 0.08.
